Bryngwatch

Bryngwatch Returns - Spring 2014

Friday 4/4/14

Regular visits to the nest box have been happening up until mid morning when the blue tits go elsewhere for the day.
Only one bird at a time is visiting the box but its partner watches from a short distance away. They have been bringing more nesting material with them.

Thursday 3/4/14

Visits to the box are happening mostly in the morning but happening more and more. The blue tit has been bringing extra moss into the nest box and packing everything to the sides to make a dip in the middle.

Wednesday 2/4/14

Blue tits are visiting the Bryngwyn camera bird box again this year. This one looks like its making itself at home.   If the box is left as undisturbed as possible, hopefully they’ll nest this year and we’ll see some eggs hatch later in the spring. Last year, noise and human activity scared them off.

Monday 29 April
Just when we thought everything had stopped in the Bryngwyn bird box, there was new blue tit activity yesterday morning.
It’s getting late in the spring for nesting to start but maybe a pair of birds will decide to call it home.

Wednesday 24 April

Since last Friday there has been no activity in the bird box. Something may have changed the birds minds about nesting here.
It’s not too late for something else to come and nest. Monitoring will continue so watch this space.

Friday 19 April
Activity is still happening early in the morning when the school is quiet. Every day one of the blue tits is guarding the entrance to the box for several minutes. Our pair of blue tits have already been given nicknames – William and Kate. Can’t think why….

Thursday 18 April
A blue tit has begun pushing nesting material to one side to make a dip. The bottom of the nest box can now be seen in the middle of the dip to the right of the picture. Visits to the box have been happening throughout the morning.

Wednesday 17 April
Blue tits are still visiting the school nest box first thing in the morning and then again about half an hour later.
No nest building is happening yet but they certainly seem interested in getting comfortable.

Tuesday 16 April
The Bryngwyn nest box camera has recorded a pair of blue tits trying out the nest box.
Here’s hoping they decide to nest here.
