Bryngwyn Newsroom's Breaking News as they scoop Mr Huw Edwards

Mr Huw Edwards, BBC newsreader and presenter of BBC news gave up time out of his busy schedule to speak with KS3 and KS4 pupils here at Bryngwyn School. Mr Edwards was invited to the school as part of the BBC News School Report, a national programme of reporting from schools across the UK. Bryngwyn has been running its newsroom annually for 5 years, but were pleased as punch to have their invitation to interview accepted by Mr Edwards.

The chosen theme was the provision of language education in schools, as the decline in languages has been highlighted in several recent government reports. Mrs Eleanor Bozkurt, Acting Head of Modern Foreign Languages Department said, “He really enthused our pupils, and highlighted the benefits of studying languages in school”.

The interview and ensuing Question and Answer session is available on our school website, and our news team hope it will be aired nationally on the forthcoming BBC School News Report Day, this Thursday, 16th March. It was a really fantastic opportunity for our learners to be able to bridge the gap between education, business and the media and we thank Mr Edwards for giving up his time to talk to us. Our pupils have been inspired both to pursue languages in their future choices and possibly follow their dreams into presenting the news themselves one day. Diolch yn fawr iawn Mr Edwards!
