Sports Day 2016
It wasn’t a great start to the day, weather wise, on Friday 24th June, as the students and staff of Bryngwyn geared up for the annual Sports Day. A torrential downpour during registration, seemed to be an indicator for the outcome of the day; but thankfully, the sun decided to grace us with its presence.
The students competing in this year’s event made every effort, and an amazing total of 27 school records were broken by students from years 7, 8 and 9. Special mentions go to; Ellie Poffley of Year 7, who broke no less than 3 school records for the 100m, 200m & 300m events; and Rhidian Jenkins of Year 8, who also broke 3 records for the Javelin, 400m and the High Jump. Below is a photo of the record breaking group!
Please see the downloadable list below; and what an impressive list it is, a massive congratulations to all!
And here's a small selection of the Record Breakers post-event:
Congratulations to Cothi & Head of House, Karen Thomas, on their victory!
We would also like to take this opportunity to thank two members of our team: Miss Wendy Jones, for her contribution to Sports Day over the years; this was her last Sports Day here at Bryngwyn, and we couldn't be more grateful for her support. And, Mrs Karen Thomas, who is hanging up her hat as Head of Cothi House, and becoming one of our Heads of Pupil Progress; her enthusiasm was unmatched on the day, and she has shown real leadership in her final victory in the role.
A terrific turnout of students and staff created an electric atmosphere, and the day was enjoyed by all. We would like to thank all students for taking part in the day; each and every one of them made commendable efforts in their events, and just showed how determined and (slightly) competitive our pupils are.
