Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Update: 16th March 2020

Dear Parent/Carer,

RE: Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19)

At Bryngwyn School, we take the health and safety of our pupils and staff very seriously and, whilst there have been no reported cases at the school to date, we wish to reassure you that measures are being taken in line with current advice from the UK’s Chief Medical Officer and Public Health Wales.

The most up to date advice we have received from Public Health Wales, was today, regarding attendance at school for pupils and staff. Their advice was that if you are asymptomatic (have none of the symptoms of coronavirus) then you are advised to carry on as normal. This is regardless of whether someone at home is self-isolating.

As a school, we continue to promote good hand and respiratory hygiene and respectively request that you support this at home too. Further advice and information can be found via this link. Coronavirus (COVID-19): UK government response - GOV.UK

Cleaning arrangements within the school have been further enhanced and regular checks of all toilets ensure that there is soap available in every toilet throughout the day.

Our extensive range of extra-curricular activities will be closely monitored and, where necessary, events and activities will be postponed or cancelled. We will, of course, communicate any decisions as they arise. However, sporting Associations are already directing schools to cancel fixtures.

Whilst we are currently adhering to advice and remaining open as a school, we are mindful of the fact that closure may be inevitable in the coming weeks. In order to prepare for such an eventuality, we are in the process of collating on line and hard copies of learning material, including revision resources for pupils about to embark upon external examinations. We have been advised that Qualifications Wales is monitoring the situation and we will remain in regular contact with the WJEC regarding any further advice and updates.

Staff have been asked to reflect upon any future meetings or events which may take them out of school and to rearrange commitments in order to maximise current teaching opportunities for our learners.

As I am sure you will appreciate, the protocol of “social distancing” in a school is very difficult to introduce, however, our programme for daily assemblies will be postponed for the foreseeable future.

We will continue to liaise with the local authority regarding our response to the virus and will dedicate a section of our website to provide updates as and when they arise. Please follow via social media and also please check your inbox regularly for any emails/text updates you may receive from us.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation

Yours sincerely,

Paul Jones                               Dave Williams
